He wants what is due him! He was willing to risk everything – his money, standing in the community, and reputation – to ensure his son became the man he was designed to be. You see, he didn’t argue with his son, he didn’t beg his son to stay, he simply allowed him to leave. Prodigal son What is the main theme? His behavior towards the father was designed to force the father to reward him with his inheritance, rather than being a grateful response to the father’s loving provision. . . Had the father given him a cold and casual welcome, perhaps the son would have been burdened for the rest of his life with feelings of guilt and shame.
